Inflation picked up sharply across the rich world. 선진국에서 물가상승이 급격. Consumer prices in America rose by 4.2% in the year to May. 미국 소비자 물가 5월에 4.2%상승. The headline inflation rate in the euro area was revised up to 3.7% from a provisional estimate of 3.6%. 유로권역의 물가상승치 3.6%에서 3.7%로 조정.  In Britain consumer-price inflation rose to 3.3%, from 3% in April. 영국에서 소비자물가 4월 3%에서 3.3%로 상승.  In an open letter to Britain's finance minister, the central-bank governor, Mervyn King, warned that inflation is likely to rise above 4% in the coming months, as higher wholesale energy prices feed through to household fuel bills. 영국 재무장관에 보내진 현 중앙은행장 Mervyn King의 서한에 따르면 에너지 업체의 가격인상이 각각의 가정에 영향을 미치면 물가상승률은 4%에 육박할수 있다고 경고.

America's current-account deficit increased to $176.4 billion (5% of GDP) in the first quarter, from $167.2 billion (4.8% of GDP) in the previous three months. 미국이 경상수지적자 규모는 지난 세달 총생산의 4.8%인 1672억달러에서 1사분기에는 총생산의 5%인 1764억달러로 증가. The wider deficit was largely due to a fall in income from foreign investments. 광범위한 적자는 외국인투자로부터 수입의 하락에 기인.

There were fresh signs of weakness in America's housing market. 미국주택시장의 약세를 나타내는 또 다른 신호. The confidence index compiled by the National Association of Home Builders fell back in May, to match the record level of gloominess reported last December. NAHB가 발행하는 신뢰지수가 5월 동안 하락, 지난해 12월 보고됐던 최저수준에 근접.  Housing starts in America fell by 3.3%, to their lowest level since March 1991. 199

GDP in Russia rose by 8.5% in the year to the first quarter. 러시아의 1사분기 국내총생산 8.5%증가.

Employment in the euro area rose by 0.3% in the first quarter compared with the fourth. 유로권의 고용이 지난 4사분기 대비 0.3%상승. Of the four large euro-area countries, only Italy suffered a fall in the numbers in work. 유로권의 4개 대국 중에서 이탈리아만이 고용감소. Construction output in the euro area fell by 0.8% in April. 4월 유로권역의 건설물량 0.8%감소. Output in Spain was hardest hit, tumbling by 6.5% in the month. 스페인은 한달동안 6.5%로 곤두박질 치며 가장 큰 타격을 받음
