meaning : work done not for money but for love or a sense of accomplishment.
 
origin : In the New Testament of the Bible there is a phrase about work done for pleasure withot profit, "your work of faith and labor of love." The English expression at something because they loved doing it and not for money. Also, "labor" and "love" both begin with th letter "I", and that alliteration helped make the expression easy to remember.
